The Commission was established to gather information and to make recommendations to the Lithuanian Parliament and Government about possible assistance from the government of the United States, also from U.S. non-profit organizations and other institutions.
The Commission has since expanded its scope of interest. The 2006-09 LAC members of the Commission A week of hearings by the Lithuanian Parliament/World Lithuanian Community Commission took place in Vilnius, Lithuania, May 12 - 16, 2008.
